start journaling in memorist without creating an account

Most journal apps ask you to create an account before you write a single word. memorist doesn't. You can open the app and start capturing your thoughts immediately — no email, no password, no verification step. Your entries are encrypted end-to-end from the moment you begin.

Download memorist from the App Store and open it. You'll land on the main timeline — your personal, private space for entries. There is no registration screen. No account is required to begin.

Tap at the top right of the screen. A menu appears with entry types including Entry and Day Journal. An Entry lets you capture a specific moment or event with a time and place. A Day Journal is for reflecting on your day as a whole. Select Day Journal to start composing your first journal entry.

The Day Journal editor opens with guided prompts to help you reflect. By default you'll see:

  • Select Your Mood — tap to record how you're feeling.
  • Day — summarize your day in a sentence or two.
  • Challenges — note anything that was difficult.
  • Highlights — capture the best parts.
  • Gratitude — write what you're thankful for.
  • Intent — set a focus or intention.

You don't have to fill in every field. Write in the prompts that feel relevant and skip the rest. Even completing just one is enough.

To add or remove prompts, tap Customize below the mood selector. This lets you show additional prompts or hide ones you don't use. Your customization is saved for future entries.

Your entry auto-saves as you write, so there's nothing to submit. When you're finished, tap Done at the top right of the screen to return to your timeline. Day Journal entries are one per day, so your entry is automatically associated with today's date.

After 30 entries, memorist will ask you to create a free account to continue — but you can do it anytime before that too. Creating an account (via Sign in with Apple) ensures you can recover your entries if you switch devices or reinstall the app. Without an account, your data is tied to this device only.

Go to and tap Create Account to link your Apple ID. Your existing entries are preserved — nothing is lost.
